Doctors, Hospitals, and Needles...

I know, I haven't written in a while but I've at least had reason not to this time...A few weeks ago I was at my parents house making some lunch and suddenly felt really sick, blacked out, got really nauseous, dizzy, shaky, and my heart was just pounding and racing. So Ashlyn and Kenz ran in to find me half passed out on the bathroom floor not looking so well. So they got me in a chair and I drank some water and we thought that maybe my sugar levels had just dropped since I hadn't eaten all day. So as they went to get me some fruit roll-ups, it happened again. So the next week I went to the doctor and they had to run all these test which meant drawing blood, and if anyone knows me, I do not have a high tolerance for pain and absolutely hate needles. So, I was lucky enough to have a new girl attempt to draw my blood and successfully miss. They got it the second time and then had to have a shot and oh it was a great time at the doctors that day. Then I had to go in again because I started to have really bad shooting pains through my chest, really shaky hands, felt like I was constantly trying to catch my breath, and was really light headed. So they drew more blood, did a chest x-ray, and did an EKG and it came back abnormal, finding out that I had short P-R intervals which lead to palpitations...In English please?? I have a short pulse rate which leads to my heart fluttering which leads to me feeling like I have to constantly catch my breath. Fun, I know! But that didn't explain the horrible chest pains or the shakiness. So I had to go to Lakeview Hospital to have a CT chest scan done to look for a possible blood clot that could be in my lungs. My mom came with me and after registering and waiting the lady came to get me to take me back. I had to lay on this long table that would go through the small circle thing but I wasn't told I was going to need an IV until she asked for my arm. Oh great, more needles :( So since I had blood drawn already in one arm that day, she tried the other arm. Unfortunately I don't have the greatest veins so it's always a challenge for them to get the needle in. Well she got it in and tried shooting some stuff into me and it hurt SO bad. I was bawling and the IV just wasn't working in that arm so she had to try the other arm. Yay, stick #2 in that arm for the day. So they finally got it in and I had to lay my arms above my head. As I went in and out of this huge thing circling around me I had to hold my breath which was hard to do lately because of this whole thing thats been going on. Then they told me these two huge syringes full of bubbling goo which was a saline dye was going to be shooting through the IV as I went through the tube one last time...which I thought was going to be okay until the saline dye made me feel this hot warm feeling start at my throat and make its way down my body. It was so weird and made me feel as though I had peed my pants when I really hadn't...weirdest thing ever! So they bring me out only to tell me...it didn't work! The dye went in at the wrong time....Ugh!!! So here went round two. I was really getting sick of things just not working the first time. The lady told me that the warm feeling from the saline was what a hot flash felt like and I told her I never wanted to get old haha! So round two and I was done. My mom thought I had been tortured when I came back to the room with black all around my eyes. I pretty much had enough torture for one day so she took me out to lunch. Well last Sunday, I was getting ready for church and had been having a shortness of breath. I got to church just in time for Relief Society and I suddenly felt like I couldn't breathe at all, got super shaky, and was having horrible shooting pains through my chest. So my mom said we needed to go to the emergency room because it wasn't stopping and this was the worst it had ever been. So we went up to the University of Utah Hospital and they immediately took me back to a room and started hooking me up to all these heart monitors, putting in an IV (which she missed the first time too, seriously?!), drawing blood, running tests, going more EKGs, and had a bunch of doctors and nurses coming in and asking questions. I felt like I was in a scene on Grey's Anatamy...just without McDreamy and McSteamy. Well, I can't say that necessarily because I did have one hot doctor and a couple good looking nurses ;) Then they came in and did an ultrasound on my heart which was cool to see but they weren't finding anything wrong. They decided to keep me over night so they moved me to their observation over night stay area. I was getting morphine like every 2 hours for the pain so I honestly don't remember much haha But they brought me some nasty turkey dinner so my mom went to the cafeteria and got me a grilled cheese and ice cream :) yummm! That I remember!! My family got to come up and see me which kind of freaked out some of my siblings to see me like that all hooked up to monitors and such. Then Erin came up to visit me, even though she had a bunch of homework to do. She is such a great friend! I am so lucky to have a friend like her! And my mom had to go so Erin said she would stay and watch Dirty Dancing with me since she had never seen it and she would do some homework while she was there. She ended up staying and sleeping there until about 4am. I had an "episode" at about 3am where I got really bad shooting pains and couldn't breathe and they put me on oxygen and some sort of medicine to try and stop it. The hot doctor decided to do another CT chest scan even though I had one at Lakeview and it came back clear. He just didn't trust them so I got to feel like I had peed my pants again. But I was so lucky to have the nicest nurse ever! She was so sweet and just always came in and made sure I was ok and she knew that I hated all the needles so she would always try to take the blood through my IV. Well she was successful at 12am but when she had to try again at 3am it just wouldn't come out. So the guy had to come in and draw it, but he was amazing at it! Either that or she had given me more morphine. I dunno? I was half asleep and out of it haha Then again at 7am I had another episode and this time I had a guy nurse cause they had switched and I didn't like him very much. He wasn't sweet and caring like the girl was. Then they came in and did another but more intense ultrasound and still weren't finding anything major. Then around 10:30am my Mom, Dad, and Ashlyn came up. Soon after they got there I went through another episode and this one was so bad and it wouldn't stop. I was crying as the shooting pains were horrible and were shooting further than they had been. My aunt and uncle soon arrived and I had my dad and aunt on each side of me trying to help me calm and slow my breathing. Then the nurse finally came in and gave me a laxative, morphine, and something else that made me completely out of it. I guess I talked to Erin on the phone and told her I gave birth to a baby elephant haha and my dad and out good friend Mitch Perkins came and gave me a blessing. Later that day I got to finally go home which I remember nothing of. They knocked me out good! I couldn't go to work for a few days which I felt really bad about leaving them short handed for a few more days that I already had. Now I am doing a lot better. I am trying a lot of different medications and have to wear a heart monitor around for a month. I have to record when I am feeling short of breath, am having shooting chest pains, or a racing heart beat. Then I have to call and turn in my recordings. Its a pain, especially at night! But I want to say thanks to my family and close friends who have helped and been there for me through all of this. It hasn't been an easy road and I couldn't have done it without them! Love you ♥
